"As my thrown work became more individualized I became more interested in the appendages of the pots ~ the handles and the arches as handles ~ and abandoned the vessel. The arched handle became the piece, and they in turn 
expanded in size and scope and dimension, which lead to all the other sculptural directions."


" 'Roots' and 'Arch' are large scale pieces, but they are downright small compared to the gigantic and incredible 'Passage' ... For this monumental installation, a dozen trunks have been lined up in a pair of sixes, creating an allee. Down the middle, Durst has suspended a series of rectangular stones that hang at waist height and suggest a floating-or imaginary-pathway. This thing's a knockout..."
